Sesame Street – Have You Ever Been to the Farm?
For my 300th post, here is a gem!!! Kids visit a farm, watch and play with the animals and ride on a tractor…all while a great folksy song is sung. After checking out the “Muppet Wiki” web page a few months back, I saw a still photo of kids at a farm with the caption “Have you ever been to the farm?” next to it. That’s all I needed to see! All of a sudden, it brought back a flood of memories for me about this film. After not having seen or thought of this segment in about 30 years, the words and tune came back in my mind. After trading my segments with another guy, he sent me this (and the entire episode it was on). I used to love watching this when I was a kid. A true Sesame Street classic!!
[phpbay] tractor, 200, “91952″, “tires”[/phpbay]

well it doesnt sound like Joe Raposo because he has a more Phil Collins type voice so maybe someone else knows
I barely remember this clip.
Probabky filmed somewhere in New York State.Don’t think they’d go too far away for such stuff.
Oh my gosh. I remember this. When it started, the words “Here is a little pig… is a pig, is a pig, is a pig…” came running into my head even before the pigs came on the screen. Then cows and calves eat hay… I remember it too.. Thanks once again!
Yet another one I had forgotten about from my childhood. Just when I think I have seen them all someone finds another one. I instantly recognized the song when it started. I always liked when they said, a pig is a pig is a pig. LOL
Whoever composed and performed this music also did “Fireman, he’s ready to go” also posted on You Tube. Thet also did a song about trains called “Riding on the Train”
The music for this clip sounds nice. It reminds me of a Bob Dylan song called “Rambling, Gambling Willie”. Has anybody ever heard that song?
If I had my own farm I want some cats
Never heard it myself, but I know OF it…It wasn’t released until ’91, “The Bootleg Series, Vol. 1″, isn’t that right?
Classic Antique Thanks for Sharing. By chance would this be Garfunkel, or and maybe The Carpenter’s
Vonbontee… you were correct.
I can’t watch this video and not smile. Thanks for posting it!
Ohhhh! My new #1 Favorite! I think I remember this one, it seems so familiar.
HE Reminds me of Don Mclean.
update: cows prefer corn to hay. their favorite is a mixture of corn and molasses simply referred to as “feed”.
Looks like a John Deere 95 or 55 squareback combine, a farmall cub, and kids climbing all over the combine while it is running. Today, everybody is such a wuss and paranoid. I remember being 3 years old riding on the fender of my dad’s tractor for hours and hours, falling asleep sitting up on top of the fender. Funny thing… I still have all my fingers and toes! Anyone else have an asphalt paved playground, with black top and cinders under the monkey bars? LOL
Such a nice Simon and Garfunkel kind of feeling to the farm. A very happy folk tune.
You know, I do seem to recall being to a farm when I was in preschool.
I just love this and it brings back more happy memories of visiting my grandparents on the farm. SS sure knew how to show realism to us children and bring different places close to home
Oh my god. Thank you for posting this mstatz. I loved this one and still do.
Things like this were perfect for kids living in big cities that never have had a chance to see how and where their food comes from. I’ve actually met some people my age who actually used to think that “food comes from (originated in) the store” as kids! Why in blazes did they have to mess with the way sesame street used to be?! It sure taught kids more back then!
Hey,any city kids out there wanna’ go cow tipping? Or maybe see how much milk you can get out of the heifers? *giggle*
A rooster is placed on a barn facing north. 1 side of the roof is angled at 36 degrees, the other side at 42 degrees. There’s a 7 mph wind blowing to the west, it lays an egg…which way will the egg roll?
(please! don’t give the answer away out here. It’s a math problem written especially with city kids in mind! *giggle* If you need the answer (or want to comment on it (at me?) e-mail me at: janicexk “at” yahoo “dot” com)
‘They all live together, ’cause they’re birds of a feather’ – THAT’S the line that makes me know that I’ve seen this!
Also, is the person who sings this the same as the one in ‘Hello Scale, What Do You Say?’ Sounds sort of like him. Thanks in advance.
@janicexk
