Is It Absolutely Necessary to Name Your Sog?

Tgere is really and truely no need in
My case. I live on a farm. Nobody knows about the dog accept his immediate family. He is the only dog in this part of the farm. Whenever we are apart I can just look over my sholder, he is INMEDIATELY their. So I do not have to call him. I do not name y tractor, it is THE TRACTOR. Can my dog is the same thing for my case only?

[phpbay] tractor, 200, “91952″, “tires”[/phpbay]

@Alesha – The dog will not care if it has a name or not. Naming dogs is something we do out of sentimentality and/or organizational purposes. It allows us to signify which of our dogs is which on a verbal level. It allows us to add yet another humanizing feature to our pets. It gives the dog a "come here" command unique to that dog. All a name is to a dog is a command that more or less means "come here". That is all. Dogs do not name eachother, they do not understand language, they only associate sounds and motions with actions that we want them to perform. You could teach your dog that "cheese grater" means sit. They don’t care, as long as they know what the word tells them to do.

To answer the question, if your dog understands that certain body language means he should come to you, then that’s fine. You do not have to name your dog. What’s his name on his vet records, though? Obviously they aren’t going to write down "look over your shoulder at the dog" for your dog’s name. :P
