Yeah new equipment or slave labor. They will pick slave labor every time. Why don’t we somehow regulate the separate states to increase taxes to provide equipment for the big farms that need a lot of labor.
We probably can’t manufacture a machine that will pick those awful California strawberries.

Growers used to be family farmers. In the 1960′s the family farms were bought out by corporations. They have been taking advantage of cheap labor ever since. Until we go after the greedy companies employing illegals the chain won’t be broken.
It is more logical. But here is why it will never work. When you can get a group of people that work far cheaper than any machine what is in it for the farmers. If illegals only worked on the farms then there would be no problems. But everywhere you look they work. They drive trucks. They work in warehouses. It is not just about farming it is basically about big business having cheap labor. That is why this is a problem.Most of the citizens want something done. The politicians and big business want the cheap labor. Bottom line why buy the gas and technology to have machines do it when you can go get 5 mexicans to do the same work for cheaper?
i remember when i used to tell my friends who were complaining about their jobs and employers that they should remember "U CAN BE REPLACED WITH A MACHINE"! if everything was done by machine, there would be no need for people and work or jobs. something to think about!
Our prisons are so full-let them do it. What happened to being sentenced to hard labor? Instead of laying around watching t.v. and contributing nothing to society-give them time off their sentence the more work they do. Then we won`t need the migrants. Have the prisoners grow the crops right in the prisonyard-a supermax prison/combo agriculture center-the food might be better and safer than from China. Build it in Arizona………………….plenty of space.

even if there were no need for illegals to pick vegetables there would still be hundreds of thousands of them still working here.
New technology is in place already to all but eliminate a few ppl needed on the crop picking farms. It’s the Special Interest Groups which are the roadblocks.
