Converting Your Planter for No-Till Operation: Closing Systems
Closing Systems Pressure on closing wheels or covering discs should be adjusted as soil moisture changes to create soil contact with the seed without over-compaction. In cases of wet soil, using a float setting (no down spring pressure) on the closing wheels may improve germination. Using closing wheels with fingers rather than conventional wheels with a continuous rim may result in lighter pressure on the soil. Drag chains may also be used to move soil lightly over the seed furrow without adding surface pressure.
